Tracy Puruntatameri is the brother of fellow Munupi Artist Nina Puruntatameri who together were taught to paint by their father, Romuald Puruntatameri. As kids they would come home from school and work with him, painting his spears. Tracy works at Munupi Arts as a carver revealing totemic Tiwi animals such as Tokampini out of local ironwood timbers and painting them with local ochres.His father, Romuald Puruntatameri, is represented in the Museum and Art Gallery of Northern Territory Collection.  His grandfather, Paddy Teeampi Tepomitari Puruntatameri, and his aunt, Rosina Puantulura, both carvers, are represented in the Melbourne Museum Collection.
